Why We Don’t Believe in Blind Dates

You know the setup. A well-meaning coworker or aunt insists they have “the perfect person” for you. You get a first name, maybe a job title, and a time to show up at a restaurant. Everything else is a guess. You spend the first twenty minutes of the date doing reconnaissance instead of getting to know anyone, because you are starting from zero.

That is a blind date. And at Minneapolis Singles, we do not do them.

Here is what we do instead, and why it works better.

A Blind Date Is a Guess. An Introduction Is a Decision.

The word “blind” is the whole problem. It means you are walking in with no real information, hoping the person who set you up did their homework. Usually, they didn’t — not because they don’t care, but because they cannot verify someone’s background, confirm they are actually single, or know whether your values and goals line up. They just know two single people and hope for the best.

We do not hope. We know.

Every Minneapolis Singles member sits down with our staff for an in-person interview before joining. We verify identity, age, and marital status, and we run a national criminal background check on every applicant. Before we ever suggest that two people meet, we have already met both of them ourselves. That is the difference between a guess and a decision.

You See a Real Profile First. Not a First Name and a Guess.

With a true blind date, you get almost nothing before you show up. With us, you get to review a profile — chosen specifically for you by our dating coordinators — before you ever agree to meet. You will see a real, current photo taken by our in-house photographer, not a decade-old flattering shot or someone else’s picture entirely. You will know what they do, what they are looking for, and why our team thought the two of you might fit.

Prefer to browse on your own instead of relying on our picks? That is your call too. Either way, you decide who you meet. Nobody is springing a stranger on you at a restaurant table.

Somebody Local Set It Up. Somebody Local Can Fix It.

When a friend sets you up on a blind date, the story ends the moment you sit down. Good luck, hope it goes well, report back later.

Our dating coordinators are Twin Cities locals who stay involved before and after the introduction. They know the area’s best date spots, from skating at The Depot to an evening of wine and theater at Riverview to an afternoon at the Minnesota Zoo, and they will help you plan a first date that actually works instead of leaving you to improvise. If it does not click, you talk to a real person about why and what to try next. If it does click, that same team is still there to help with reservations, tickets, and the details that make dating feel less like a chore.

The Real Alternative Isn’t Just Apps. It’s Us.

People assume the only options are a friend’s well-intentioned blind date or a dating app’s endless scroll. Both have the same flaw: neither one truly knows the two people they are putting together. A friend has limited visibility. An app has none — no interview, no background check, no verified photo, just an algorithm matching keywords.

Minneapolis Singles sits in between, and above, both. We combine the personal judgment a good friend would offer with the screening and follow-through neither a friend nor an app can provide. Every introduction we make is backed by an in-person interview, a verified photo, a background check, and a team that stays involved from the first suggestion to the first date and beyond.
